I have a fairly recent memory of my dad, for some random reason, writing a set of haikus about Nitrogen. Like, the sixth element on the periodic table. Nitrogen. And they were hilarious. Something so innocuous being put into a serious form of poetry by a man who had no intention of taking any aspect of it seriously… I loved it. So for the Print Edition in March, 2022, I asked my dad to write a few more haikus about whatever struck his fancy. He chose jury duty, because why not? And hence, My Dad’s Haikus About Jury Duty appeared in print. And who knows, maybe there will be more about some other topic next time…

My Dad’s Haiku’s About Jury Duty

by Steven’s Dad, Rich Sutton

Uh oh, a summons

To the courthouse I must go

Nah, it’s in the trash

Jury duty now,

Sadly, I cannot attend

The cat’s on my lap

Alone in the house

My wife has jury duty

Thank god its not me
